Terms of service

Last updated May 9, 2026

Welcome to Tank Talks. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of tanktalks.sdfkjh.com (the "Site"). By accessing or using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site.

Plain-language summary: Tank Talks publishes freshwater aquarium content. You're welcome to read it, share excerpts with attribution, and follow our advice in your own tank. We can't guarantee that everything you read here will work for your specific tank, so use judgment. We're a small operation, and our liability is limited. By using the Site, you accept these terms.

These Terms are a starting framework appropriate to a hobbyist publication. They are not formal legal advice, and if Tank Talks ever scales, takes sponsored content, or operates in ways that materially change risk, this document should be reviewed by a qualified lawyer.

1. Who we are

Tank Talks is an independent freshwater aquarium publication. The Site, its content, and any associated materials are operated by the owner of tanktalks.sdfkjh.com ("we," "us," or "our"). For contact: hello@tanktalks.sdfkjh.com.

2. Acceptance of these Terms

By accessing or using any part of the Site, you represent that you are at least 13 years old and agree to be bound by these Terms and our privacy policy. If you are accessing the Site on behalf of a company or other entity, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity to these Terms.

3. The Site as informational content

Everything published on Tank Talks is provided for informational and educational purposes. We share what has worked in our tanks, what we have learned from reading and conversations with other hobbyists, and what is documented in publicly available scientific and government sources.

Aquarium keeping involves living animals and chemical/biological systems that vary substantially between setups. Advice that works in one tank may not work in yours, and outcomes depend on factors we cannot see — your specific water chemistry, equipment, fish, plants, and history. You are responsible for the welfare of animals in your care.

We are not veterinarians. We do not provide veterinary advice. If you have a fish or invertebrate that appears sick, the right step is to consult a qualified aquatic veterinarian rather than rely on any website, ours included.

4. License to use the Site

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Site for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may:

  • Read articles on the Site.
  • Share article links on social media.
  • Quote brief excerpts (under 300 words) with attribution and a link back to the original article.
  • Print articles for your own personal reference.

You may not, without our express written permission:

  • Reproduce, republish, or syndicate Tank Talks content on another website, blog, newsletter, or platform.
  • Use Tank Talks content to train AI models or generate derivative content.
  • Frame the Site within another website.
  • Scrape the Site at a rate that affects performance for other users.
  • Remove or alter any copyright notice, byline, or attribution.

All Tank Talks original content — articles, illustrations, photographs we've taken, and the design of the Site itself — is copyright Tank Talks, all rights reserved, except where explicitly noted.

5. Third-party content and links

The Site may include content from third-party sources (cited references, public-domain government materials, quoted excerpts under fair use, etc.). Such content remains the property of its respective owners and is used in accordance with applicable copyright law.

The Site contains links to third-party websites and products, including affiliate links. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, privacy practices, or terms of any third-party website. Following an affiliate link does not change the price you pay; it does pay us a small commission. See our affiliate disclosure for the full explanation.

6. User-submitted content

Currently, the Site does not accept user comments, reviews, or other public submissions. If we add such functionality in the future, separate community guidelines will apply.

If you email us with feedback, corrections, or suggestions, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use that feedback to improve the Site, subject to our privacy policy. We will not publish your name, email, or correspondence without your permission.

7. Newsletter

By subscribing to the Tank Talks newsletter, you consent to receive periodic email from us at the address you provide. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email or by emailing hello@tanktalks.sdfkjh.com. We do not sell, rent, or share the subscriber list. Full details are in our privacy policy.

8. Affiliate links and product recommendations

Tank Talks participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and may participate in other affiliate programs. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Our recommendations are based on our editorial judgment, not on commission rates. We do not accept payment in exchange for product placement. We will not recommend products we believe are unsafe or unsuitable for the use case described. Full disclosure: affiliate disclosure. Editorial standards: editorial standards.

9. No warranty

The Site and all content on it are provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, or availability.

We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of viruses or other harmful components. We do not warrant that any product we recommend will produce a particular result in your tank.

You use the Site at your own risk.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Tank Talks, its operators, and its contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or related to:

  • Your access to or use of, or inability to access or use, the Site.
  • Any content or conduct of any third party on or through the Site.
  • Any decision you make based on Tank Talks content, including but not limited to decisions about animal welfare, equipment purchases, or water chemistry interventions.
  • Unauthorized access, use, or alteration of your transmissions or content.

In no event will our total liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to the use of, or inability to use, the Site exceed one hundred U.S. dollars (USD $100), or the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, whichever is greater. (Since Tank Talks is free to read, in most cases this means USD $100.)

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability for consequential or incidental damages, so the limitations above may not apply to you. In such cases, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Tank Talks and its operators from any claim, demand, or damages, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Site.

12. Modifications to the Site and these Terms

We may update, modify, or discontinue the Site or any part of it at any time, with or without notice. We may also update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Site after a material change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

13. Termination

We reserve the right to terminate or suspend your access to the Site at our discretion, without notice, for any reason — including violation of these Terms.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the Site operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of these Terms or your use of the Site will be resolved in the state or federal courts of that jurisdiction, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.

If you live in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with mandatory consumer-protection law that overrides this clause, applicable mandatory law applies to the extent it conflicts with the above.

15. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that the remaining Terms remain in full force and effect.

16. Entire agreement

These Terms, together with our privacy policy, affiliate disclosure, and editorial standards, constitute the entire agreement between you and Tank Talks regarding your use of the Site.

17. Contact

For questions about these Terms, contact us at hello@tanktalks.sdfkjh.com.

These Terms are a reasonable starting point for a hobbyist publication. They are not formal legal advice. Before relying on this document at scale or in connection with sponsored content, paid memberships, or any other arrangement that materially changes risk, have a qualified lawyer review and adapt them to your specific operations.
